Netflix's new mystery series comes with many twists, one of which pertains to the show's use of Sherlock Holmes, and it is now a global streaming sensation. Netflix and Sherlock Holmes have been connected for years. Besides any licensing deals for movies and TV shows that focus on the greatest detective in genre history, Netflix has also become home to an original Sherlock Holmes franchise. That would be the Enola Holmes movies that star Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown as the detective's sister, Enola. The trilogy has included appearances of The Witcher's Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, keeping the detective on Netflix.

Enola Holmes 3, the latest of Netflix's Sherlock Holmes-adjacent movies, was released as part of the streaming service's 2026 lineup of releases. Netflix's movie and TV show library has thrived for years on the mystery genre, with Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc leading both Knives Out murder mystery franchise sequels, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, for the streamer. On the TV side, Netflix saw the release of mystery series Agatha Christie's Seven Dials and The Residence in the last couple of years. Now, it is The Final Problem's time to shine.

At the time of writing, The Final Problem is the 4th most-watched TV show on Netflix worldwide, according to data from FlixPatrol. The Sherlock Holmes-like series was released on Netflix on September 25, becoming an instant global streaming sensation for the streamer. It debuted on the chart at 6th just a day after the show's four episodes were released on Netflix around the world, with The Final Problem having since climbed two more spots on Netflix's global Top 10 TV Shows list. That chart is currently led by Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, the new season of one of Netflix's biggest shows ever.

Worldwide, The Final Problem leaves behind shows like Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen, the coming-of-age drama Minerva Academy, the recent Netflix Original hit Crew Girl, and more on the streamer's chart. The Final Problem is reportedly trending on Netflix in 71 countries, ranking as high as the streamer's most-watched show in eight of them, as per FlixPatrol. The Final Problem is also Netflix's 9th most-watched TV show on Netflix in the United States, standing one step above Theo James' crime thriller series The Gentlemen. Instead of Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, it is the comedy A Different World that leads Netflix's US TV show chart.

The Series Offers A Unique Twist On Sherlock Holmes

The Final Problem might not be a Sherlock Holmes series, but the new Netflix show does have a key connection to the famous detective. That comes through its main character, actor Benjamin Basil, played by José Coronado, who uses his experience as one of the actors who have portrayed Sherlock Holmes onscreen to act as the investigator behind the suspicious murder of an English tourist at a secluded hotel on a tiny island off the coast of Mallorca in the middle of a powerful storm that leaves 13 people stranded on the island. As such, The Final Problem trends on Netflix with a Sherlock Holmes twist.
