Marvel's new Spider-Man receives a brand-new origin story that teases Peter Parker's transformation into the creepiest version of the wall-crawler to date. All Spider-People across the Spider-Verse have varying origin stories, but Peter Parker's is the most easily recognizable. Failing to stop the criminal who kills Uncle Ben and getting bit by a genetically altered spider are the two constants in every Peter Parker variant who becomes Spider-Man in the Marvel multiverse, encompassing comics, animation, video games, and live-action movies.
However, not every single version of Peter Parker goes through the same events. For example, Peter Parquagh a.k.a. Spider-Man 1602 from Earth-311 gains his powers in the 17th century when a unique dimensionally displaced spider bites him while he serves as an assistant to royal spymaster Sir Nicholas Fury. Elsewhere, Peter Parker of Earth-90214 a.k.a. Spider-Man Noir receives his powers through supernatural means after breaking open a smuggled artifact containing a cluster of mystical spiders and experiencing a vision of a "Spider-God."
This year, Marvel introduces a new Peter Parker variant with different arachnid abilities, a different costume, and a different origin story.
Peter Parker's Midnight Universe Origin Story Is Unveiled
Midnight Spider-Man #1; Written By Phillip Kennedy Johnson; Art By ScieTronc And Neeraj Menon

Marvel reveals a first glimpse at Midnight Spider-Man with a fraction of Peter Parker's origin story from the Midnight Universe. In this version of the events, a young Peter Parker returns from vacation to find his beloved pet dog dead, already decomposed, and with a spider crawling out of its eye socket. Before he gets his superpowers or Uncle Ben dies, the Midnight Universe's Peter Parker learns a lesson in power and responsibility by failing to lock a door in his house.
It's still unknown whether the spider Peter finds inside his dog's corpse is the one that gives him his arachnid powers, but the trauma of finding his pet as a decomposed skeleton already places Peter on the path to becoming the creepiest Spider-Man in the Marvel multiverse. Meanwhile, Reed Richards is expelled from college in Midnight Fantastic Four #1, and a vampiric Storm bites Jean Gray's neck in Midnight X-Men #1. Marvel's Midnight Universe is launching with an explosive collection of origin stories for its most important players.
Midnight Spider-Man #1 is available October 7 from Marvel Comics
