Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, on Tuesday visited the Nigerian Air Force headquarters in Abuja to sign the condolence register for personnel who died in a recent military aircraft crash.

Obi, who disclosed the visit in a post on his official X account, described the deaths as a painful loss to the nation.

He said the visit provided him another opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies who risk their lives in the service of the country.

“The visit gave me another opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made daily by the men and women of our Armed Forces and other security agencies in the line of duty.

“These courageous Nigerians put their lives on the line to defend our nation and protect our people. We must never take their service and sacrifice for granted,” he wrote.

Obi extended his condolences to the Nigerian Air Force and the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased personnel.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the Nigerian Air Force and to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of those who lost their lives,” he said.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and strength for their families.

“May God grant eternal rest to the departed and give their families the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss,” Obi added.

He also prayed for the safety of security personnel still serving across the country.

“May God continue to protect all those who serve our country,” he said.

The visit came amid continuing tributes to the victims of the crash, with political leaders, government officials and Nigerians mourning the loss of the military personnel and other occupants.

The Nigerian Air Force has described those who died as personnel who served the country with courage and dedication.
