There was yet another double podium — a 1-2 — for India as Praveen Kumar and Banti clinched gold and silver respectively in the men’s high jump T64 event at the Asian Para Games 2026 on Wednesday.

This was India’s 11th gold medal of the edition, 10 of which have come in athletics.

Defending Paralympic champion Praveen bettered the Games Record twice to finish with a best jump of 2.05m. Banti notched up a Personal Best attempt of 1.92m to finish second.

Uzbekistan’s Temurbek Giyazov completed the podium, bagging the bronze with 1.86m.

Praveen first broke Giyazov’s Games Record of 1.95m, set in Jakarta 2018, with a jump of 2m. The Indian then backed it up with a clearance of 2.05m, which he did on the third and final attempt.

Meanwhile, Banti attempted to clear 1.95m, but couldn’t do so in three attempts.
