Weather: Two provinces brace for severe thunderstorms

Here is what the weather has in store for KZN, Free State and North West on Tuesday 15 September 2026.

SAWS has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, with localised damage and flooding possible. KwaZulu-Natal and North West are among the affected areas.

KWAZULU-NATAL

Partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly but light to moderate southerly to south-westerly in the extreme south, spreading to Mtunzini by the evening

DURBAN

Durban is going to be partly cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The wind will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly, becoming light to moderate southerly to south-westerly by mid-morning but light and variable from the evening.

Temperatures will range from 20°C to 25°C.

The UVB sunburn index is going to be low.

FREE STATE

Partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the south-west.

BLOEMFONTEIN

Bloemfontein is going to be partly cloudy and windy with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Temperatures will range from a minimum of 8°C to a maximum of 19°C.

NORTH WEST

North West province should be partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the extreme north-west.

MAHIKENG

Mahikeng is going to be partly cloudy and windy with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Temperatures will range from a minimum of 11°C. to a maximum of 24°C.
