Jeff Bezos’ has invested billions of his fortune into SpaceX rival Blue Origin; documents reveal extraordinary commitment; what Amazon founder said on winners in the space

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has invested a staggering $30 billion of his personal fortune into rocket company Blue Origin since founding it in 2000, including a fresh $2 billion commitment as the company ramps up efforts to challenge SpaceX's dominance in the commercial space industry, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

Documents reviewed by the publication reveal the scale of the Amazon founder's financial backing for Blue Origin, underscoring a long-term commitment that has helped transform the company into a major space player with around 15,000 employees and ambitious growth plans.

Jeff Bezos’s $2 billion is part of Blue Origin’s first-ever capital raise

The latest $2 billion commitment from Bezos forms part of Blue Origin's first-ever fundraising round involving external investors. The company has already secured $10 billion in the oversubscribed financing round, which values the company at approximately $140 billion, according to the report.

Bezos, whose net worth stood at about $275 billion in late September according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, has previously sold Amazon shares to help fund Blue Origin's expansion.

Revenue targets jump from $800 million to $30 billion

The company is betting heavily on future growth across rocket launches, satellite communications and artificial intelligence infrastructure. Blue Origin generated about $800 million in revenue in 2025, according to the documents cited by the Journal.

The company expects revenue to grow to roughly $1.4 billion this year before surging to more than $30 billion by 2030. Part of that projected growth is expected to come from a satellite communications business that has yet to launch hardware into orbit, as well as a planned fleet of AI-focused satellites.

Rocket launch services are also expected to contribute significantly to future revenue.

Leaner operations under Limp

The company has been sharpening its operations. It carried out a major layoff last year and stopped suborbital tourism flights.

Chief Executive Dave Limp, who took the job almost three years ago, has emphasized accelerating missions and technical development, and the company is eager to deliver for customers such as NASA.

New Glenn and the SpaceX challenge

Blue Origin faces competition across its business lines from other rocket operators and satellite and spacecraft companies, but especially from industry leader SpaceX. According to the documents, Blue Origin expects to narrow SpaceX’s lead with its New Glenn vehicles.New Glenn is a massive rocket with a reusable booster. Blue Origin has flown it on three missions, but it has not flown since a vehicle exploded on a Florida launchpad in May. The company is redeveloping that complex.

What Bezos said about winners

Bezos said in an interview last year that the space industry has plenty of room for winners. “SpaceX is going to be successful. Blue Origin is going to be successful. And there’s some company out there right now that hasn’t even been founded yet that is also going to be successful,” he said.
