Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) - East Kalimantan recorded an additional 172 hectares of burned land from November 1-7, bringing the cumulative affected area to 10,910 hectares, the provincial disaster agency said.

“The additional burned area resulted from 57 fires reported across the province in November,” said Rahmat Ramadhan, head of Emergency and Logistics at the East Kalimantan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), in Samarinda on Sunday.

The cumulative area affected by forest and land fires in East Kalimantan has reached 10,910 hectares. The province recorded 2,614 fire incidents through early November, Rahmat said.

All additional burned areas recorded in November were on community land outside designated forest areas. Samarinda recorded the largest increase, with 70.27 hectares burned in 16 fires during November.

East Kutai District recorded an additional 45 hectares of burned land, Rahmat said. Neighboring Kutai Kartanegara District reported 27 hectares burned in 11 fires during November. West Kutai District recorded 18.81 hectares of burned land in six fires.

Daily monitoring on November 7 detected three new fires, Rahmat said. One fire was detected in Bontang City and two in North Penajam Paser District.

Hotspot detections across East Kalimantan increased to 366 on November 7, he said. Joint response teams remain on standby at local command posts to extinguish fires, Rahmat said.
