Gilmour builds perfect midfielder including Pirlo and McTominay

Napoli and Scotland international Billy Gilmour was asked to create his ultimate midfielder, picking elements from Andrea Pirlo, Scott McTominay and more.
The player sat down with DAZN to go through the characteristics that make up the ideal figure in his role from past and present.
Gilmour impressed with McTominay aura
There was some Serie A influence to his choices, including Italy legend Pirlo as the one with the best Football IQ.
Casting the net around Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard, Isco, Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes, Roy Kean and David Silva, Gilmour went a little closer to home when asked to name the midfielder with the greatest aura.
“McTominay,” he smiled, referring to his Napoli and Scotland teammate.

The 25-year-old came to Napoli from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2024 at a cost of €14.75m, but has struggled with repeated injury problems.
He’s hoping that this season he can finally put them behind him, having made four appearances between Serie A and the Champions League, scoring one goal.
