Marcos to students: Keep asking questions, be open to new ideas

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday urged students to remain curious and open to new ideas and perspectives as he attended the recognition ceremony for schools and education partners that participated in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) in Pasay City.

“To our learners, keep asking questions. Look at things from different points of view. Do not be afraid to change your mind when you learn something new,” Marcos said in his speech.

“To change one's opinion, to change one's view is the prerogative of an intelligent mind,” he added.

Marcos also called on teachers and parents to nurture students' curiosity, encourage them to explore beyond the classroom, and guide them in using technology as a tool for learning.

“Let us teach our children to be intelligent. Let us teach our children to question. Let us teach our children to understand,” the President said.

The Philippines posted its highest-ever mean scores in the PISA in reading, mathematics and science in 2025.

The country recorded mean scores of 373 in science, 371 in mathematics and 367 in reading, up 17, 16 and 20 points, respectively, from its 2022 results.

Based on mean scores, the Philippines ranked above 14 participating countries in science, 16 in mathematics and 18 in reading, according to the Department of Education.— MCG, GMA News
