Brandon King's 81 not out guides West Indies to 1-0 series lead against Bangladesh

West Indies vs Bangladesh

West Indies defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets in the first Test after chasing down a target of 170 runs on Saturday.Opener Brandon King led the charge with an unbeaten 81 off 115 balls, hitting 10 fours and a six. Kavem Hodge supported him with an unbeaten 31 as West Indies comfortably secured a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

West Indies' spinners played a major role in the win, bowling Bangladesh out for just 142 in their second innings.Captain Roston Chase picked up five wickets for 36 runs, while Jomel Warrican claimed four for 63. Warrican had also taken five wickets in Bangladesh's first innings.Bangladesh resumed Day 4 at 79 for six but managed only 63 more runs. Nayeem Hasan top-scored with 52, recording his maiden Test half-century, but Chase eventually dismissed him to complete his five-wicket haul.

King and Campbell lead the chase

Chasing 170 on a difficult pitch, West Indies openers Brandon King and John Campbell chose to attack rather than defend against Bangladesh's spinners. The pair added 112 runs for the first wicket, putting their team in a strong position. King brought up his sixth Test half-century, while Campbell scored 49 after making 54 in the first innings.

Shoriful Islam dismissed Campbell with a swinging delivery, while Hasan Mahmud removed Tagenarine Chanderpaul for one.

However, Bangladesh could not create further pressure as King and Hodge added an unbeaten 50-run partnership to finish the chaseEarlier, Bangladesh scored 272 in their first innings before West Indies replied with 245. The second Test will be played in Sylhet next week, with Bangladesh looking to level the series.
