Knicks halt sales after pricing ‘mistake’ puts season opener tickets above $1,000

The New York Knicks said on Thursday they are pausing ticket sales after a mistake caused them to be listed at prices that were too high.

The NBA champions put individual game tickets for the 2026-27 season on sale this week. The get-in price for the 20 October season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers was more than $1,000.

“We are pausing Knicks individual ticket sales due to a mistake in our pricing. We are rolling back to last year’s prices plus an average increase of 12%. We will restart sales with new prices shortly, and anyone who already purchased individual tickets will be refunded the difference,” Madison Square Garden Sports said in a statement.

There is generally a ticket-price increase after seasons when the Knicks make the playoffs, and a jump was expected after the franchise won its first NBA championship in 53 years last season. Owner James Dolan has not raised prices when the team does not make the postseason.

“Our intention was never to overcharge our loyal fans, and we thank everyone for their support of the Knicks and their patience as we get this right,” MSG said.

When the Knicks opened single-game ticket sales to the ⁠general public on Wednesday, the get-in price for their first home game hit $1,363, according to TicketData.com. The figure had spiked as high as $1,408 ​this week when single-game tickets ‌were first made ‌available to Knicks Fan First Chase cardholders on Monday.

The process for purchasing season tickets began months ago and was not affected.

The ‌season opener is shaping up to be one of the marquee games of the regular season. In addition to the Knicks coming off the title, the 76ers signed LeBron James and ‌acquired Jaylen Brown over the offseason to team with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

High ticket prices have drawn scrutiny around sports this year. Secondary-market prices for the Knicks’ home games during the NBA finals in June approached $9,000 for the worst seats at Madison Square Garden.

The average get-in price for the Knicks’ 45 scheduled ⁠preseason and regular season home games is $262, according to TicketData.com. That ​is more ​than double that of ​any other team, with tickets to get into ​Los Angeles ‌Lakers home ​games averaging $130, ​followed by the Boston Celtics at $99.
