Campbell Weighs In On Joshua, Fury Blockbuster Clash

While Olympic medalist Luke Campbell is refusing to pick a definitive winner for the upcoming heavyweight mega-fight, the former boxer has no hesitation in declaring who holds the superior overall career record between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Speaking on the historic rivalry ahead of their December 11 showdown on Netflix, Campbell in a chat with The Ring, pointed to Joshua’s glittering amateur pedigree and multi-time heavyweight championship reign as the deciding factors.

“Joshua, for me, has had the way better career,” Campbell said. “I mean, he’s an Olympic gold medalist for a start. Then he’s gone to become two-time world heavyweight champion, too.”

Despite giving the edge to his fellow Olympic gold medalist in terms of legacy milestones, Campbell was quick to praise Fury’s unshakeable self-belief and longevity at the pinnacle of the sport.

“They’ve both had incredible careers. I remember even when he was young, Tyson always had that belief in himself. He was always floating around saying what he was going to do. So, it has been nice to see him prove himself right because that doesn’t always happen,” Campbell added.

Reflecting on how far both British boxing icons have traveled since their early days, noting a famous throwback photo of the pair together in a McDonald’s nearly 15 years ago, Campbell marvelled at their enduring status at the top of the division.

“I’ve seen so many fighters come and go, but Fury and Joshua are still right there at the top after all those years. That picture in McDonald’s was nearly 15 years ago now and look what they are about to do.”
