Dragon Ball Z is one of those complete series that fans will still check in on from time to time. Not every series delivers, but for the most part, DBZ is still one of the most popular shows of all time, and is still garnering new fans on a constant basis. Pretty much everyone has seen Goku at some point, even if it's just a character on a menu or a sign somewhere.
But the series has more planned, and it's been a golden goose ever since it took hold westward. Thanks to a direct confirmation on YouTube, we now know part of what Dragon Ball Z has planned for 2027.
It's a mouthful, but Bandai Namco is celebrating the 2027 release of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero add-on Super Limit-Breaking Neo on the Switch family of systems, and they're doing it in style with a Toonami-inspired trailer.
Here's everything that's new: "30 characters including those joining the Budokai Tenkaichi series for the first time such as Super 17, Bardock, Super Saiyan, and Champa and Vegeta (GT). 20 Customization items such as costumes and Super Attacks. Recreate iconic scenes or enjoy even more intense Dragon Ball battles by equipping your favorite ultimate techniques. Four new stages have been added, including Kami’s Lookout, which served as a place of training and battle in the series, and the S Planet Vegeta, where Bardock clashed with Frieza’s forces."
There's also a massive Solo Mode, which is easily the crown jewel of the DLC. It lets you select a destination on the map, then battle through locations to gain XP and Battle Arts for your characters. These let you customize your character and use them in player matches and offline battles, kind of like a trained NPC.
All of this was already released on other platforms on July 29 this year, but the Switch 1/2 versions need more time in the oven. Right now, the plan is to release the DLC on Switch 1/2 in 2027.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has had a wild ride, much like other Dragon Ball games that have delivered DLC for many years after launch. Originally released in 2024 and developed by Spike Chunsoft, the team fighter started dropping DLC quickly, just a few months after release.
Dragon Ball Super Hero was the first iteration to be honored in DLC form, followed by Dragon Ball Daima. Next up was Dragon Ball Legends in DLC 4, then Super Limit Breaking Neo. So far, no other DLC has been announced.
You can bet there will be many more add-ons at some point for any given Dragon Ball game, but for now, Sparking! Zero has over 200 characters.
