13 areas in Sarawak record unhealthy API readings

KUALA LUMPUR: Thirteen areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy air quality readings as of 8am today.

Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System data showed that Sri Aman recorded the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in the country at 181.

Sri Aman was followed by IPD Serian (179), Kuching (174), Sibu (173), Sarikei (169), Bintulu (168) and Samarahan (168).

Other areas in Sarawak recording unhealthy readings were Mukah (162), Miri (158), Samalaju (158), ILP Miri (155), Limbang (153) and Kapit (116).

Meanwhile, 46 areas nationwide recorded moderate API readings, with Labuan recording the highest at 87, followed by Keningau (81), Politeknik Kota Kinabalu (79), Cheras (78), Kota Kinabalu (78), Bukit Rambai (77), Batu Muda (74), Nilai (74), Tawau (71) and Johan Setia (71).

Eight areas recorded good air quality, with Banting recording the highest API reading in the category at 47.

Other areas with good readings were Kuala Terengganu (45), Indera Mahkota Kuantan (40), Besut (40), Kangar (38), Temerloh (35), Jerantut (33) and Langkawi (31).

API readings of 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and 301 and above hazardous.
