Finance Ministry launches RM3.54m Tioman projects, bridges and solar lights to boost tourism

TIOMAN, Sept 28 — A total of 26 infrastructure development projects and community programmes costing RM3.54 million are being implemented in four villages on Tioman Island under the Ministry of Finance’s Madani Adopted Village initiative. 

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the projects took into account the needs and views of residents, particularly to improve their well-being and support tourism activities on the island. 

The four villages involved are Kampung Tekek, Kampung Juara, Kampung Salang and Kampung Genting. 

“Basically, the objective of Madani adopted village is to reduce the gap between urban and rural areas, where we see that infrastructure can be improved. 

“So, we encourage the use of existing local contractors because the projects are small-scale, and this can create opportunities for contractors in their respective areas,” he said.

Amir Hamzah said this during a working visit to Tioman Island in conjunction with the Budget Tour at the Finance Ministry’s Madani adopted village on the island, held from Sept 26 to 27, 2026. 

He said the 26 projects would commence in October 2026 and are expected to be completed by March 31, 2027. 

Among the projects he visited were a food supply cabin and a public motorcycle parking facility at the passenger jetty in Kampung Tekek, as well as a project involving the installation of 10 solar lights at Kampung Juara Jetty. 

The Madani Adopted Village initiative also includes the construction of a new bridge in Kampung Salang and upgrading the tourist-friendly landscape at the Kampung Genting entrance. 

In addition, community programmes to be carried out include sukan rakyat (folk sports) programmes in each village, as well as a gotong-royong (communal work) to repair water supply pipes in Kampung Juara next month. — Bernama
