Nagoya, Japan (ANTARA) - The Indonesian contingent surpassed its target at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games on Wednesday, securing its eighth gold medal of the competition, sports officials said.

The milestone exceeds the team's initial goal of seven gold medals, with additional podium opportunities still ahead across multiple events.

"The initial target of seven gold medals has been officially surpassed today, with the Indonesian team successfully securing an eighth gold," said Rima Ferdianto, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Indonesia.

Boccia athlete Felix Ardi Yudha secured the team's eighth gold medal by defeating Thailand’s Phakphum Linchum 5-3 in the men’s individual BC2 final at the Nagoya City General Gymnasium.

Boccia has served as a key driver for the delegation, contributing three gold medals so far, following earlier victories by Handayani in the women's individual BC1 and Gischa Zayana in the women's individual BC2 events.

Indonesia's remaining five gold medals were claimed across para-swimming, where Maulana Rifky Yavianda won two titles, para-athletics through victories by I Kadek Dwi Purwana Yasa and Karisma Evi Tiarani, and para-cycling via Muhammad Fadli Imammuddin.

As of Wednesday evening, Indonesia’s overall tally stood at eight gold, six silver, and 19 bronze medals.

NPC officials noted that the team could add to its medal count as competition continues in athletics, swimming, para-badminton, and the boccia team event.

"The battle is not over yet—let’s keep the Red and White flag flying high," Ferdianto said.
