Haaland’s Strike Earns 10-man Man City 1-0 Win Against United

Ten-man Manchester City secured a hard-fought 1-0 derby win against Manchester United at Old Trafford thanks to Erling Haaland’s goal.

City played most part of the game with 10 men after Phil Foden was sent off in the 23rd minute for violent conduct.

After a tangle with Bruno Fernandes near the touchline left Foden on the floor over the ball, the United captain appeared to kick out and the City forward reacted by kicking both feet into the Portuguese’ stomach.

Referee Michael Oliver showed a straight red card, which VAR confirmed, making it the first red card for a City player in a top-flight Manchester derby since 2006.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, City remained organised and competitive. United hit the woodwork either side of half-time through Marcus Rashford (a free-kick) and Kobbie Mainoo but struggled to break down a disciplined City defence.

The decisive moment came around the 60th minute. Josko Gvardiol’s cross (deflected) found Haaland at the back post, and the striker finished expertly.

The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but a lengthy VAR review overturned the decision.

Haaland was judged narrowly onside thanks to Patrick Dorgu’s outstretched foot; Enzo Fernández was in an offside position and attempted a diving header but did not touch the ball and was deemed not to be interfering with play.

United mounted wave after wave of attacks following the introduction of Benjamin Sesko and Zirkzee but City’s backline stood firm.

In stoppage time, Gianluigi Donnarumma produced a superb save to deny Bryan Mbeumo from close range, palming his goal-bound strike away for a corner.

City are second on 12 points, same points with leaders and league champions Arsenal in the table, while United are in 13th on four points.
