Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has donated N100m to victims of recent bandit attacks in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area, while calling for intensified security operations to restore peace and facilitate the return of displaced residents.
The governor announced the donation on Friday during a sympathy visit to the Wasagu Chiefdom, assuring residents that his administration would continue to address the security challenges confronting the area.
Expressing concern over the attacks and their impact on affected families, Idris stated that the visit was not politically motivated but a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to the welfare and security of the people.
“We are not here for politics; we are here to sympathise with you over the recent bandit attacks.
“Wasagu is one of the places this government holds very dear to its heart,” the governor said.
The governor acknowledged the security challenges facing the country, maintaining that his administration was making strategic efforts to protect lives and property.
“No state in Nigeria is 100 per cent free from one challenge or another. However, government is doing everything possible to protect its people and address the security situation,” Idris stated.
He urged residents to remain hopeful and united, calling for prayers and collective efforts to overcome insecurity and restore normalcy to affected communities.
“We must change our attitude, humble ourselves, and seek divine intervention. In-Sha-Allah, Allah will listen to our prayers and accept our supplications,” he said.
The governor also called on residents to promote peaceful coexistence, warning political supporters against violence, intimidation, and the destruction of campaign billboards.
“We do not encourage our supporters to fight anybody, and you should not tamper with anybody’s posters or billboards. We must learn to live peacefully with one another, regardless of our political differences,” he warned.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security, Haliru Aliyu Wasagu, disclosed that the governor had been advocating the deployment of additional military formations to strengthen security operations in the area.
The commissioner commended Idris for his interventions, while faulting former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, over his alleged failure to address insecurity in Kebbi State during his tenure under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Wasagu argued that Malami’s high-ranking position in the Federal Government provided a strong platform to contribute more significantly to tackling insecurity in his home state.
“The question is: what did he do to address insecurity during his time in office. Whenever bandits attacked a community, what steps did he take to support the victims and cushion the effects of those attacks?” the commissioner queried.
The commissioner’s remarks came amid heightened concerns over security in parts of Kebbi State and renewed demands for a stronger military presence in vulnerable communities.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional council and residents, the Chief of Wasagu, Mukhtar Adamu, thanked the governor for the visit and financial support.
He expressed confidence that peace would return to the area and pledged the community’s support for the administration.
“We have nothing to offer you other than to continue praying for the success of your administration.
“We are with you, and In-Sha-Allah, we will reciprocate your support,” the monarch said.
The N100m intervention comes as displaced families in the area await improved security conditions to return safely to their ancestral homes.
