With an eye on managing the workload of fast bowlers, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on Sunday announced a slew of changes to its squad for the remainder of the T20I series against India.

Lockie Ferguson will miss the third T20I and rejoin the squad for the fourth and fifth games, while Matt Henry will miss the remaining games. Henry and Ferguson’s absence will give New Zealand the opportunity to test its bench strength.

Kyle Jamieson, who missed the first two games, will be available for only the third T20I. Matt Fisher, who is part of New Zealand-A’s squad for the second four-day game against India-A, will travel with the squad as cover for the third T20I

Blair Tickner will be available for games 3-5, while Josh Clarkson will be part of the squad for the last two games.

Speaking on the changes, New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said:

“It’s been a competitive start to the T20 series with two close games and plenty more cricket to come.”

“We’re very fortunate with the depth in the squad to be able to call upon different players to help manage our pacers workloads, and to try and ensure they’re best placed to perform for the team for all the cricket coming up.”
