Delta boosts Los Angeles flights with 200 departures

Delta Air Lines has said it is expanding its operations at Los Angeles International Airport, with more than 200 daily departures planned at the peak of its summer 2027 schedule.

This was contained in a statement made available to The PUNCH on Monday. According to the airline, this expansion could give Nigerian travellers more options when flying to California, other parts of the US West Coast and destinations across Asia and the Pacific.

Delta already connects Nigeria to the United States through its nonstop Lagos-Atlanta service. From Atlanta, passengers can connect to Delta’s wider U.S. network. The airline’s growing presence at LAX adds another gateway, particularly for travellers heading west.

Speaking on the development, Chief Revenue and Experience Officer at Los Angeles World Airports, Courtney Moore, said, “Los Angeles shapes, transforms, and influences the world, and LAX is proud to be the gateway connecting travellers to our city.”

The airline said investment by airlines in connectivity would help strengthen Los Angeles as a global destination, while improvements at LAX continue to create a more modern airport experience.

Delta added that for Nigerian passengers, the attraction is not only the number of flights but where those flights can take them. “Delta serves 25 international destinations from LAX, including cities in the South Pacific and Asia. This gives travellers arriving in the United States more possible connections, depending on their final destination.

“A Nigerian travelling to Los Angeles, for example, could also use the airport as a gateway to other destinations along the U.S. West Coast or connect onward to parts of the Pacific,” the airline added.

Delta Air Lines further noted that it has invested $2.3bn in its Sky Way project at LAX, which links Terminals 2 and 3. “The project is designed to make movement through the airport easier and improve facilities for passengers.”

The airline said, “For premium travellers, Delta One customers have dedicated check-in facilities, private TSA security screening and access to Delta One Lounges.”

The airline also plans to open another Delta Sky Club at LAX in 2027. Delta added that its premium cabins will feature an expanded wine programme, including selections from California and international wineries. Eligible customers can also access fast, free Wi-Fi and Delta Sync entertainment on flights.

The statement further stressed that “For travellers making the long journey from Nigeria to the United States, such details can make the difference between simply getting to a destination and having a more comfortable journey.”

The planned LAX expansion is part of Delta’s wider investment in its U.S. network as international and domestic travel demand changes. “With more than 200 daily departures expected at LAX during the summer peak, the airport will become an increasingly important part of Delta’s global network,” Delta Air Lines stressed.
