Coronation Street's Jodie Ramsey star signs new one-year contract to keep playing villain

Olivia Frances Brown has signed on the dotted line for another year of playing the enigmatic Jodie Ramsey in Coronation Street.

The character first appeared during the epic Corriedale crossover, following a multi-vehicle pile-up on a dark and stormy road in Connelton.

A van joined the queue of traffic that was backed up along the thoroughfare due to the closure of the M62, and the sinister-looking driver – later revealed to be Emmerdale's Graham Foster – wasn't best pleased.

He glanced backwards at a tied and bound woman in the back – it was Jodie.

She was then revealed to be Shona Platt's (Julia Goulding) estranged sister, and began taking a number of bizarre items from her neighbours. From stealing a picture of Bernie Winter-Alahan (Jane Hazlegrove) to a book belonging to Brian Packham (Peter Gunn), and trying to seduce brother-in-law David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), there seems to be no exact catalyst behind her behaviour.

While we still don't know an awful lot about Jodie, or what makes her tick, there seems to be plenty of opportunity ahead to explore that.

According to The Sun, the ITV soap has been impressed by Brown's performance and has handed her a new contract.

“Olivia has been a huge hit with the cast and crew as well as the bosses," a source told the publication.

This week, we'll see Jodie swap dad Doug's (Steve Evets) psychosis medication for painkillers, and purposely turn the radio up when he claims that he can hear a static noise.

Matters take an even more concerning turn in forthcoming scenes, when it seems that the gun she took from Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) resurfaces. Someone will be shot at the Platt house following an argument between Jodie and Shona.

But who is shot, and will they survive? Today's news pretty much confirms that Jodie won't be meeting her maker any time soon.
