Lionel Richie Undergoes Heart Procedures for Atrial Fibrillation, Cancels Additional Shows

Lionel Richie has been hospitalized for atrial fibrillation — an irregular heartbeat — causing him to cancel three upcoming shows with Earth, Wind & Fire.

Per TMZ, the singer and R&B icon is currently undergoing treatment for atrial fibrillation, which is minimally invasive and not a major procedure; the treatment creates tiny scars in the heart to block faulty electrical signals and restore a normal rhythm. As a result, Richie has cancelled the next three shows on his “Sing a Song All Night Long Tour” with Earth, Wind & Fire — September 26th in San Francisco, September 30th in Chicago, and October 2nd in Columbus.

Richie has been in and out of the hospital multiple times in the last year. He was rushed to the hospital back in June after feeling “dizzy” and “strange” during a show in Minnesota, cutting his set short as he was taken by paramedics; this initially caused the Chicago and Columbus shows with Earth, Wind & Fire to be rescheduled to this fall. Then, in August, he was hospitalized in St. Louis and spent three days in the ICU receiving tests for cardiac issues.
