SHAH ALAM, Oct 23 — An individual suspected of impersonating the personal bodyguard to the Raja Muda of Selangor to deceive members of the public has been found to have 19 police reports lodged against him nationwide.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said nine of the reports involving the 40-year-old man were lodged in Selangor in connection with fraud cases, with estimated losses totalling nearly RM700,000.
“Police also wish to emphasise that this individual is not a palace staff member and has no links to the Selangor Royal Institution. He is believed to be an ordinary individual who took advantage of his friends by deceiving them,” he said.
He was speaking at a press conference on the achievements of the Selangor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department at the Selangor police headquarters here today.
Shazeli said police had also detained a woman in her 30s, believed to be the suspect’s fiancée, to assist in the investigation.
He urged members of the public with information to contact the nearest police station or the investigating officer, Sgt Norizuana Saaidin, at 014-7175567. — Bernama
