Teen murder accused in court over ambush attack

A boy accused of murdering a young man in a group attack at a party has had his case heard in court for the first time.

The Inala teen was arrested and charged on Wednesday over the death of Jongkuch Kur Jongkuch during an alleged “preconceived plan” to attack people at a property south of Brisbane on July 26.

He is the ninth person charged with Kur Jongkuch’s murder.

The 21-year-old was gravely injured after a party at a rented home in Bahrs Scrub, a suburb of Logan, police have alleged.

He was transported to hospital in a critical condition with severe head injuries and died six days later.

The Inala boy, who cannot be identified as he is 17, had his case briefly mentioned in Beenleigh Childrens Court on Thursday.

His case was adjourned to October 12 by Magistrate Eoin Mac Giolla Ri.

The boy was charged on Wednesday following what police said was an extensive investigation into an alleged armed attack by a group of young men.

The teens allegedly attended a gathering at a short-term rental armed with various weapons before it erupted into violence, Detective Inspector Ian Galpin previously said.

“The police will allege that this group had a preconceived plan, which included arming themselves with various weapons before attending Bahrs Scrub with the common purpose of inflicting harm on persons at that address,” he said.

The attack allegedly resulted in several vehicles being destroyed, the home extensively damaged and its street shut down.

Four men – two aged 18 and two aged 19 – were initially charged with murder on August 6.

Three men aged 18 and a Doolandella boy, 17, were located and charged on August 9.

The Inala boy’s case has increased the number of juveniles charged with murder under the tough new Queensland laws to a total of 12.
