KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Bursa Malaysia opened higher on Friday ahead of the tabling of Budget 2027 today, with investors monitoring measures to support strategic industries and household spending.

At 9.16am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 1.14 points to 1,602.15 from Thursday’s close of 1,601.01. The index opened 1.93 points higher at 1,602.94.

However, in the broader market, losers outnumbered gainers 233 to 216, with 284 counters unchanged, 2,095 untraded and 13 suspended.

Turnover stood at 326.93 million units worth RM155.22 million.

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said the FBM KLCI remained below key moving averages.

“Momentum indicators suggest that selling pressure may be easing, supported by a rounding bottom formation in the moving average convergence divergence and a relative strength index hovering near oversold territory.

“Key resistance lies at 1,616-1,631, while near-term support is expected around 1,571-1,586,” it said in a note today.

Malacca Securities said 99 Speed Mart Retail could benefit from higher Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) and Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) allocations under Budget 2027, potentially boosting spending at value retailers.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng said Wall Street closed mixed following reports that OpenAI’s annualised revenue came in lower than the amount initially reported.

“Meanwhile, crude oil prices remain elevated while the US 10-year Treasury yield eased to 5.235 per cent.

“Over in Hong Kong, the HSI fell to a two-month low as sentiment was spooked by the spike in crude oil prices coupled with the volatility within the bond market,” he told Bernama.

Back home, he saw current FBM KLCI levels as a solid opportunity to snap up local blue chips, thus expecting the index to possibly stage a rebound sooner rather than later.

“For today, we anticipate the index to hover within the 1,600-1,615 range,” he said.
