Tim Curry’s ‘Wild Thornberrys’ Co-Stars Lacey Chabert, Flea & Danielle Harris Remember His “Uncanny Humor & Naughty Wit”

As the world mourns the death Tim Curry, a whole generation is hit with the loss of Nigel Thornberry.

Following Curry’s death at age 80 on Wednesday, the voice cast of Nickelodeon‘s The Wild Thornberrys paid tribute to their onscreen patriarch from the animated series that ran for five seasons from 1998 to 2004, also launching The Wild Thornberrys Movie (2002) and the crossover Rugrats Go Wild (2003).

Lacey Chabert, who starred as the voice of Nigel’s zoolinguist daughter Eliza Thornberry, wrote on Instagram, “I’ll forever cherish the wonderful memories of working with Tim on The Wild Thornberrys. It was such a joy to watch him create a character. He was always so incredibly kind to me and encouraging. He will be so very missed.”

Danielle Harris, who played moody older sister Debbie, also paid tribute. “How lucky I felt to share the stage with him for 7 years,” she wrote on Instagram. “I recorded with Tim more than anyone on the cast and my face would literally hurt from laughing leaving the recording studio. I would get so excited when I’d pull into work and see his car in the parking lot. Tim’s uncanny humor and naughty wit was like no other and I just absolutely adored him. Tim has undoubtedly left a mark on all of our lives forever. He will be missed.”

The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, voice of the family’s adopted feral, gibberish-speaking jungle boy Donnie, wrote in his tribute, “I was a kid who dressed in mom’s makeup and [lamé] dress and went to see Rocky Horror at the Tiffany theater on Sunset. I loved Tim Curry. We worked together later for a few years on The Wild Thornberrys and I was excited to hang out with him and cut up, the sincere and funny voices. He was kind, smart and funny as hell. God bless him; beautiful and cosmic journeys to you Tim.”

On Tuesday, Curry died at his home in the Toluca Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, where his longtime manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz said he passed peacefully. While a cause of death was not immediately known, Curry had suffered a major stroke in 2012, which resulted in him undergoing brain surgery and using a wheelchair.
