Bukidnon cops ordered to secure firearms after Zamboanga shooting

VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — Following the fatal shooting incident at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) last Tuesday that left two high school students dead, the Bukidnon Police Provincial Office (BukPPO) ordered its personnel to properly secure their firearms out of reach of their children to avoid a similar incident.
At the same time, the BukPPO directed city and municipal police stations to coordinate closely with school officials for the security and safety of students and campus personnel.
Cpt. Sheila Joy P. Jangad, BukPPO spokesperson, said the provincial police command has sternly reminded all police personnel to properly secure their issued firearms in safe locations to prevent children from accessing them.

She warned that anyone proven negligent will face criminal charges and dismissal from service.

Jangad said the BukPPO leadership also issued an order for all police stations to beef up security measures at schools to prevent students from bringing weapons and dangerous items on campus.They were directed to coordinate closely with school security guards, teachers, and local government units (LGUs) to implement stricter bag inspections and frisking procedures at school entrances, she said.Authorities also urged parents through Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meetings to closely monitor their children, while police have distributed emergency hotlines to schools.
