Mass Effect TV series reportedly still in the works despite BioWare shutdown

Translate

According to industry sources, Amazon Prime’s Mass Effect TV adaptation will continue its development despite BioWare being gutted and Mass Effect 5 being cancelled.

The news comes from IGN, who have revealed these insider sources claim that development on the series shows no signs of slowing down.

The Mass Effect TV show has been in development since 2024 but still does not have a release date or even a target release window.

Reportedly, the creatives working on the TV series have also not been impacted, which includes BioWare’s own project director Mike Gamble, who was leading the studio on Mass Effect 5 while serving as an executive producer on the show.

Doug Jung, best known for writing Star Trek Beyond and The Cloverfield Paradox, will continue to be the series’ showrunner. While Daniel Casey, known for writing Fast & Furious 9, will be the show’s main screenwriter.

Mike Gamble took to X to make a light-hearted comment about BioWare’s current situation, stating that: "I could probably scroll for hours and continue reading the words of support for the studio, the legacy, and the impact that BioWare has had on you...."

"...As for me: At least I don't have to call in sick when GTA 6 comes out."

It is clear that, much like with Amazon Prime’s Fallout, the platform is hoping to create another smash hit with Mass Effect's IP.

But with BioWare scrapped and no hope for Mass Effect's future in the gaming world, it’ll be interesting to see how this project pans out.

BioWare was slashed as part of EA’s mass layoffs across the company, gutting a total of 400 jobs across the board in an attempt to save costs.

The cuts came after EA was sold to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund in a $55 billion deal, which left the company with roughly $18 billion of debt.

Mass Effect 5 was first announced in 2020, making it a highly anticipated release and one that many fans were looking forward to.

However, there is a silver lining with the TV adaptation’s continued development, as fans will be able to step back into the Mass Effect universe one more.
