Alan Cayetano says Lacson acts as chief justice, prosecutor; Ping fires back

Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano has criticized Sen. Ping Lacson for acting like a chief justice, prosecutor, and more, saying the latter dictated how the flood control probes should go. Lacson fired back by questioning Cayetano’s credibility.

In an ongoing verbal war between the two senators that has been ongoing since July, Cayetano accused Lacson of acting like he held authority over the investigation.

"Si Senator Lacson kasi ay Chief Justice Lacson, Prosecutor Lacson, DOJ (Department of Justice) Lacson, Persecutor Lacson, siya na lahat, Secretary Lacson – siya na ang lahat. Siya na ang nagdidikta eh – sa LLDA (Laguna Lake Development Authority), Blue Ribbon Committee, DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government), at PRA (Philippine Reclamation Authority). Kahit sila na mismo ang magsabi, babaguhin niya," Cayetano said in a Facebook livestream.

The statement came days after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed to Cayetano during a Senate budget hearing that there were no ghost projects in Taguig City.

However, Lacson, who said that there was evidence of anomalous projects in Taguig City, told Dizon not to contradict his agency’s own findings. In a previous media interview, Lacson said that Dizon called him after the budget hearing, apologizing and expressing that he felt set up by the question.

On Wednesday, Lacson shrugged off Cayetano’s latest insult.

“If it were coming from someone credible, I’d take it as a compliment,” he said on X.

Dizon, who found himself between the two senators’ feud, clarified that his statement must be taken within the context of the question. He only said that while there were no conclusive ghost projects to be found in Taguig City yet, investigation is still ongoing. —AOL, GMA News
