PlayStation Is Running Out Of Time With Its Next PS5 Exclusive

Amid all the ways that PlayStation has been rubbing fans the wrong way with decidedly anti-consumer business practices, one of the best things it has going for it is that it’s secured a Grand Theft Auto 6 marketing partnership, including Grand Theft Auto 6-themed DualSense controllers. This is a godsend for PlayStation because fans only have two choices when it comes to pre-ordering Grand Theft Auto 6: PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S.

That said, PlayStation has another heavy hitter waiting somewhere in the wings. Kena: Bridge of Spirits made a name for itself due to its stunning, Disney-esque art direction, but it’s also a phenomenal action-adventure with a charming Ori and the Will of the Wisps atmosphere and wonderful Soulslike combat. Its sequel, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, was announced as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive seven months ago, and is still nowhere to be seen.

Where Is Kena: Scars Of Kosmora?

Bizarrely, with only three and a half months left to meet its proposed release window, Kena: Scars of Kosmora is still scheduled to be released for PC and PS5 in 2026. At least, that’s all we know, as there has been neither a release date reveal nor a delay announcement since Kena: Scars of Kosmora’s announcement trailer premiered during the February 2026 PlayStation State of Play.

Today, Kena: Scars of Kosmora is strangely nowhere to be found. This is only odd, of course, because it was bold enough to claim a 2026 release window when it didn’t need to if it wasn’t prepared to launch this year. It’ll be great if it can launch this year, giving fans an incredibly short wait for the highly anticipated sequel, but the likelihood that it does wanes with every month that goes by without any other bits of marketing.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits was a timed console-exclusive game for PS4 and PS5 when it originally launched on September 21, 2021, before also becoming available for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on August 15, 2024, and for Nintendo Switch 2 on March 26, 2026. However, it appears as if Kena: Scars of Kosmora itself may not be a timed-exclusive that becomes ubiquitous later on.

Kena: Bridge Of Spirits’ Sequel Has Big Shoes To Fill

Ember Lab only had a console-exclusivity deal with Sony for Kena: Bridge of Spirits, developing and publishing it itself, while the sequel is actually being published by PlayStation. As per PlayStation.Blog, Ember Lab co-founder Josh Grier describes this collaboration as such:

“Partnering with PlayStation Studios has empowered us to craft an even larger world – one built with an emphasis on tightly designed regions, deliberate progression, and a strong sense of adventure.”

We’ll have to get an update on whether or not Kena: Scars of Kosmora will launch this year sooner or later, and the longer that we don’t, the greater the chances are that a shadow drop is imminent. Either a last-minute launch trailer or release date delay must arrive in the near future in order to clarify its true release window.

More time simmering on low heat is never disadvantageous, and games launching throughout the rest of 2026 are already packed shoulder-to-shoulder like sardines in an effort to distance themselves from Grand Theft Auto 6 (and now the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake) this holiday season. For instance, September still has Silent Hill: Townfall and Control Resonant for fans to look forward to, and October boasts Gears of War: E-Day, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, and Silver Pines.

Therefore, nobody would be able to bat an eye if Ember does wish to release Kena: Scars of Kosmora in 2027. Regardless of when it launches, Kena: Scars of Kosmora has the potential to be a sensational game for PlayStation.
