33 areas record unhealthy API readings, Johan Setia highest

KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty-three areas across nine states and Kuala Lumpur recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings this morning.

According to the Department of Environment's (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Johan Setia in Selangor recorded the highest reading at 176.

It was followed by Cheras (173), Nilai (171) and Shah Alam (170).

Other areas with readings above 160 were Pasir Gudang (169), Batu Muda (166), Putrajaya (165), Larkin (165), Seremban (164) and Klang (163).

Indera Mahkota and Balok Baru in Kuantan also recorded readings of 163.

In Selangor, Petaling Jaya recorded an API reading of 161, followed by Banting (160) and Kuala Selangor (154).

Johor was among the worst-affected states, with Kota Tinggi recording 160, Pengerang (155), Batu Pahat (154), Tangkak (152) and Kluang (131).

Pasir Gudang and Larkin also recorded unhealthy readings.

In Melaka, the state capital recorded a reading of 160, followed by Bukit Rambai (156) and Alor Gajah (136).

Kuala Terengganu recorded 157, while Kemaman and Paka registered 154 and 152 respectively.

In Pahang, Rompin recorded 152 and Jerantut 132.

The readings in Indera Mahkota and Balok Baru in Kuantan were also among those recorded in the state.

Seri Manjung in Perak recorded 154 and Tanjung Malim 146, while IPD Serian in Sarawak registered 140.

API readings between 101 and 200 are classified as unhealthy and may affect sensitive groups, including children, the elderly and those with respiratory or heart conditions.

The public has been advised to reduce outdoor activities, wear face masks when necessary and monitor the latest air quality readings through the DOE's APIMS website.
