Marion Cotillard to Serve as Marrakech Film Festival Jury President

Translate

Oscar-winning French actor Marion Cotillard will preside over the competition jury at the 23rd Marrakech Film Festival in November.

Alongside her to be announced jury members, the “Inception” and “Dark Knight Rises” star will lead the decision of which film is awarded the Étoile d’Or out of Marrakech’s international competition, which consists of first and second features.

“I have been fortunate enough to attend the Marrakech International Film Festival since its very beginnings; I’ve had wonderful experiences there and met some truly remarkable people,” Cotillard said in a statement. “Supporting filmmakers as they take their first steps is a vital part of what this festival is all about — it’s in its DNA — and it is a great joy for me to chair the jury this year.”

Cotillard first broke out in the 1998 French action comedy “Taxi,” before making her Hollywood debut in Tim Burton’s “Big Fish” (2003). In 2007, she portrayed French singer Édith Piaf in “La Vie en Rose” and won the Oscar for best actress, becoming the only actor to win an Academy Award for a French-language performance.

This year’s Marrakech Film Festival takes place from Nov. 20-28.
