Sundowns defender Grant Kekana (34) not ruling out his Bafana Bafana return

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has not shut down the door on his Bafana Bafana return.

The 34-year-old centre-back played a huge role in helping Bafana finish third at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Injuries and poor form saw him lose his place in the national team.He missed out of the 2025 AFCON as well as the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With the likes of Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Olwethu Makhanya and Ime Okon secured their place in the Bafana squad, Kekana’s return looks unlikely.

The veteran defender though feels he can still add to the national team under Pitso Mosimane.

“I’m feeling good and better than I’ve been in the long time,” said Kekana on SNAWA.

“It’s just for me to continue working, I think there’s still a chance for me but all the players that have been selected are fully deserving of their places.

“I think it’s going to be a nice time to watch them. Coach Pitso has got something to build.

Kekana eyeing Bafana return

Kekana’s return to the national team looks more like a dream given the quality of defenders Mosimane has. All centre-backs are 23 years and below and almost all of them play their football overseas.

One player who is also looking to return to the Bafana squad is 29-year-old Siyabonga Ngezana. He is ahead of Kekana in terms of the pecking order meaning the Downs defender will most likely not get another chance to play for Bafana.
