Pokémon Finally Confirms What's Under Mimikyu’s Disguise After Years Of Wondering

The real secret behind Pokémon's longevity is just how much care and attention they put into the design of every creature under its banner. Some obviously get a lot more attention than others, but every single one of the 1,025 official unique Pokémon species has something about them that makes them unique and appealing.

That's where the old saying among the community comes from, that there's a 'mon out there for everyone, and go to an event or card show, and you should be able to find someone whose favorite is different to everyone else. All of that said, there are a few designs that are very unusual, and one in particular has finally revealed what's going on underneath its creepy disguise.

Mimikyu's Disguise Has Finally Been Removed

Anybody who has enjoyed the Pokémon franchise for any period of time will know about Mimikyu. Mimikyu is a dual-type Ghost and Fairy that was introduced in Gen VII, but its design has always been the area of greatest interest for fans. Standing at just eight inches tall, Mimikyu hides under an old piece of material that it has designed to look as much like Pikachu as possible.

The tragic reason for this is that it's immensely lonely, and it has seen how popular Pikachu has become. It therefore thinks that dressing up like the latter is its best chance of making friends, and if that just isn't the saddest thing I can think of, then I don't know what is. It's one of the most well-appreciated creations of the more recent generations, and it regularly pops up in new releases to this day.

The big mystery remains though, what does Mimikyu actually look like? We know the appearance that it wants to put out into the world, but we have no idea what's hiding under its disguise. Until now, perhaps, as Centro LEAKS shared a post over on Twitter/X, featuring Mimikyu internal designs.

One of those illustrations features what looks to be a small blob hiding within th disguise, giving us our first look at what Game Freak actually think is going on underneath all of that bluster. It's a cute little blob, but it isn't interesting enough to be a design in its own right, which does make the costume a lot more of a logical choice.

The Tenth Generation Is Not Far Away

We don't know too much yet about what's to come next for the Pokémon series with the release of Winds and Waves, as Game Freak is keeping their intended Pokédex close to their chest for the time being. There will obviously be a lot of entirely new 'mons this time around, though variations on older classics are also likely to appear, we'll just have to wait and see if Mimikyu is counted among them.
