Suspect claims 'instructions from God' a month before Rohingya teen's killing

KOTA BARU: The main suspect in the murder of a Rohingya teenager claimed he received "instructions from God" a month before the incident.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said this was based on the statement recorded from the 31-year-old main suspect, who is also Rohingya.

He said the main suspect was arrested at his rented house in Pasir Mas yesterday and is now under remand.

"So far, five arrests have been made, including four people detained on the day of the incident and the main suspect, who was arrested yesterday.

"Based on preliminary investigations, the main suspect, who is believed to have mental health problems, claimed to have received 'instructions from God' a month before the incident last Friday.

"The suspect may have been hallucinating, and the main suspect worked at the same location as the victim.

"At the time of the incident, there was no quarrel or struggle. Instead, the victim was sitting around before the suspect approached him and immediately slashed him," he said at a press conference after the Kelantan police headquarters' monthly assembly today.

Yusoff said police would also conduct a detailed investigation into the UNHCR card belonging to the detained suspect, as it was feared to be fake.

"This is because the three UNHCR cards belonging to them have the same dates of birth but different years. So, we will investigate the matter in detail," he said.

It was reported that police had detained four people to assist investigations into the murder of an 18-year-old refugee, who was found unconscious at Taman Desa Kujid on Friday.

The victim was found unconscious with slash and slash wounds to his neck.
