Mindhunter is one of the best crime TV shows of all time and certainly so in recent memory, but that show is not coming back, at least for now, and there is another genre series that is rising to the top on digital. Mindhunter became one of Netflix's most intriguing shows by being a psychological thriller that broke down the psyches of notorious serial killers. Throughout the hit Netflix series' two seasons, real-life killers like Edmund Kemper, Dennis Rader/BTK Killer, Charles Manson, David Berkowitz, and many more were played by actors in the show starring Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallanym, and Anna Torv.

While Mindhunter season 2, which was released on Netflix all the way back in 2019, will seemingly remain the end of the crime series, there are other shows from the genre with multiple seasons and intriguing angles for viewers to watch right now. On Netflix itself, crime thriller series like The Chestnut Man bring complex serial killers and dark atmospheres to life. A hit crime series that has been going on for a long time is Criminal Minds, which first started airing on CBS in 1995. Now on Paramount+ as Criminal Minds: Evolution and having aired season 19, Criminal Minds just became a #1 digital hit.

Criminal Minds Is One Of The Best Crime Shows Airing

At the time of writing, Criminal Minds is the most-watched TV show on the Apple TV store in the United States, according to data from FlixPatrol. The police procedural series climbed the VOD store's chart on October 1, getting to the top spot, which it continues to hold. This development is interesting, as no new episodes of Criminal Minds have been released on Paramount+ since the season 19 finale dropped on July 23. Still, Criminal Minds is closing in on the milestone of 60 days, aka two full months, trending on the Apple TV store chart in the US.

Right now it is at 49 days, but with Criminal Minds just hitting #1 on the list, it is hard to imagine the long-running crime series fully dropping out of the top 20 TV shows chart before getting to that milestone. Criminal Minds leaves behind quite a few major TV shows on the chart, including South Park, Scrubs, American Horror Story, Yellowstone, Dexter, Mad Men, Marshals, ted, From, Westworld, and more. Still going strong at 19 seasons, Criminal Minds is one of the best crime series available for fans of the genre, holding a solid overall 82% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Criminal Minds' Future Explained

Before season 19 wrapped up in July, the show's fate had already been decided by Paramount+. Criminal Minds is set to return for season 20, as the long-running crime series was renewed back in March, a couple of months before season 19 had even debuted on the streaming service on May 28. As such, this new chapter for the show, Criminal Minds: Evolution, which started on Paramount+ in 2022, shows no signs of having a finish line in mind. Thanks to a strong performance on the streamer, being the 6th most-watched TV show on Paramount+ worldwide right now (via FlixPatrol), and on VOD, Criminal Minds deserves its confirmed future.
