Doma United aim to make NPFL mark – Ayeni

Doma United coach Deji Ayeni says the newly promoted side’s main objective is to make a strong impression in the Nigeria Premier Football League after their perfect start to the 2026/27 campaign.

The Savannah Tigers have won all three of their opening games without conceding a goal, including a 2-0 victory over former champions Enyimba in Gombe on Saturday.

Their impressive run has put them top of the early NPFL table with nine points, but Ayeni insists the club is focused on competing strongly rather than putting undue pressure on themselves with title talk.

“It is too early to judge any team at the moment, but the most important thing is that our set objective is to make a very good impression in the league,” Ayeni said in an interview.

“And if we are to win the league title, so be it. But we want to compete well and be at the top and want to make an impression on Nigerian football and stakeholders.”

Ayeni, who previously coached Enyimba, also reflected on the victory over his former club, saying his familiarity with the Aba side helped his preparations.

“Concerning the game against Enyimba, it was a game that everybody had been waiting for, and I am happy that we prepared well, and the players responded very well,” he said.

“Don’t forget that Enyimba is a team I coached before joining Doma United. So Enyimba is my former team, and I know the club very well.”

Doma will now look to maintain their unbeaten start when the league resumes, having already emerged as one of the early surprise packages of the new season.
