Al-Aqsa Mosque

Egypt condemned the entry of hundreds of Israeli settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem and warned against attempts to change the historical and legal status quo at the site.

In a statement on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the Foreign Ministry said that the settlers carried out provocative acts and performed religious rituals inside the compound.

Egypt also warned against the continuation and intensification of such actions, saying they come amid wider settlement activities and statements rejected by Cairo.

Egypt added that these actions could seek to change the existing arrangements and impose a new reality at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Cairo called for preserving the historical and legal status quo at holy sites in Jerusalem and protecting the religious status of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

It also warned that repeated incidents could increase tensions and threaten security and stability in the occupied Palestinian territories and the wider region.
