The Strokes Skewer Billionaire Class in Puppet-Filled “Lonely in the Future” Video

The Strokes followed up their appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend by releasing a new music video for “Lonely in the Future.”
Directed by Warren Fu and brought to life with puppets from Splitting Image, the video skewers the billionaire class and its influence over the media, war, and culture at large. Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Rupert Murdoch all get the puppet treatment, with Musk and Bezos having their own subplot as lovers.
The video also features appearances by creative visionaries whose work was misunderstood or underappreciated in their time, including Lou Reed, Stanley Kubrick, and Bach. Rick Rubin, who produced The Strokes’ latest album, Reality Awaits, music critic Anthony Fantano, and Greta Thunberg also make puppet appearances, as do The Strokes themselves.
