Ministry prepares special exam schedule for fire-hit regions

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Primary and Secondary Education Ministry has prepared a special scheduling scheme for the Academic Ability Test (TKA) for senior high school students in areas affected by forest and land fires to ensure they can take the exam safely.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti said the ministry had arranged separate test schedules for regions where fire conditions continued to pose risks to students’ safety and health.

“Students’ safety, security, and health come first. We have arranged for the test to be held on a separate schedule,” Mu’ti said here on Monday.

He explained that Central Kalimantan was among the regions that had formally requested special scheduling for all educational units through an official letter to the ministry.

The request was based on fire conditions that continued to prevent students from studying and taking the test safely, he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Primary and Secondary Education Policy Agency (BKPDM) Toni Toharudin said the agency had established standard operating procedures (SOPs) for administering the test in disaster-affected areas, including those hit by forest and land fires.

He said adjustments to the test schedule would take into account conditions in each region. Areas where conditions remained safe could administer the TKA in either the first or second testing session.

However, if conditions on the ground did not permit the test to proceed, it could be postponed to the make-up period.

“If an incident occurs in an area, we already have standard procedures that allow us to postpone the test as needed. In such cases, the test will be rescheduled for the make-up period,” he said.

Toharudin added that the make-up period could also accommodate students who were unable to take the test as scheduled, for example, because of illness.

If conditions in disaster-affected areas changed and the test still could not be administered, the ministry had prepared other scheduling alternatives, he said.

Through this scheme, the ministry aims to ensure that the TKA in areas affected by forest and land fires can be adjusted to conditions on the ground, while prioritizing students’ safety and health.
