Upgraded ALECO substation unveiled in Ligao City, Albay

LIGAO CITY — Households and businesses in parts of Albay’s third district are expected to experience fewer power outages and benefit from the upgrading of the Albay Electric Cooperative Inc. (ALECO) substation in this city.
The upgraded facility in Barangay Dunao was unveiled on Wednesday, with a doubled installed capacity of 40 megavolt-amperes (MVA) from 20 MVA.
ALECO Technical Services Department Manager Engr. Mark Jessan Lucilo said the expansion is expected to ease pressure on existing electrical facilities, improve load distribution and address low-voltage problems and recurring power interruptions.

The project was initiated through the Ako Bicol party-list and funded through national government resources.
Ako Bicol party-list Representative Alfredo Garbin Jr. said the system would be upgraded further through proposed substation projects in Pio Duran and Banquerohan-Imalnod in southern Legazpi City, as well as planned improvements to the power distribution system in Bacacay and Tabaco.
“Reliable power is essential to sustaining local businesses, supporting economic activities and improving services for our residents,” said Ligao City Mayor Fernando V. Gonzalez.
The project includes a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for remote monitoring and control, as well as two new double-circuit distribution lines to improve network management and reliability.
The upgraded substation will have six feeders serving Ligao City, Pio Duran, Guinobatan, Jovellar and portions of Oas.
