Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Rally Draws Crowds as Nairobi Mobilisation Begins

Supporters of the Linda Mwananchi movement have started gathering in Nairobi’s Central Business District ahead of a major political mobilisation tour led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Sunday.

Some supporters arrived in the CBD as early as 8am, carrying placards and whistles as they waited for the day’s activities to begin.

On Tom Mboya Street, the supporters danced to anti-government songs, creating a charged atmosphere as more people continued streaming into the city centre.

Several businesses in parts of the CBD remained closed ahead of the rally, while police officers maintained a visible presence in anticipation of the political procession.

Sifuna is leading the mobilisation alongside other political figures, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and former nominated senator Millicent Omanga.

Large crowds also gathered outside All Saints Cathedral, with some supporters carrying Kenyan flags as they waited for the church service to conclude.

Linda Mwananchi tour itinerary

The Nairobi mobilisation is scheduled to begin with a church service at All Saints Cathedral at 9am.

From the cathedral, the procession is expected to move through Marikiti and Gikomba markets before proceeding to Burma Market.

The tour will then pass through Stage 17, B Centre and Manyanja before supporters move along Jogoo Road towards Jacaranda Grounds.

The day-long mobilisation is expected to culminate in a mega rally at Jacaranda Grounds at around 2pm, where Sifuna is scheduled to address supporters.

Sifuna has been urging his supporters to turn out in large numbers for the Nairobi tour, which his allies have described as the “mother of all rallies”.

Security heightened in Nairobi

The large political gathering has prompted heightened security preparations across parts of the city, with police officers deployed to monitor the procession and maintain order.

The visible security presence comes amid concerns over possible disruptions as supporters move through busy markets and densely populated parts of Nairobi.

Organisers are seeking to demonstrate Linda Mwananchi’s ability to mobilise large crowds in the capital while taking its anti-government message directly to residents and traders.

Sifuna’s growing political profile

The Nairobi tour comes as Sifuna continues to position himself as a prominent figure within opposition politics ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The senator has increasingly used Linda Mwananchi activities to engage residents at the grassroots level, with the movement seeking to build support through public meetings and mobilisation campaigns.

The Nairobi event will therefore provide a significant test of the movement’s ability to attract supporters in the capital and sustain momentum beyond its previous mobilisation activities.

It also comes against the backdrop of heightened political activity, with competing opposition formations seeking to consolidate their support bases and position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
