Tom Holland’s eye-watering seven-figure ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ payday

After reportedly pocketing an upfront fee of $20 million (R324 935 600), Spider-Man: Brand New Day star, Tom Holland, is in line for an even bigger payday due to the box office success of the film.

After grossing over $2 billion, the film’s lead is said to be getting a backend fee of at least $100 million (R1 624 678 000).

The Wrap reports that the 30-year-old British actor, who reprised his role as Peter Parker in the latest instalment of the Marvel teen superhero film, made a deal that secured an uncapped backend fee in addition to his multi-million dollar upfront amount.

Because the film has been such a smash at the box office after its release three weeks ago, the amount Holland is looking to get bigger than the $100 million, with the potential to grow.

In 2016, Holland was paid a mere $250,000 (R4 059 375) for his first stint as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, reports Complex.

Holland recently also starred in the highly anticipated and successful film The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, among others. He played Telemachus, the prince of Ithaca and the son of Odysseus, alongside his wife, American actor Zendaya (29).

The Odyssey pulled in over $1.3 billion (R21.12 billion) worldwide.
