"He can't be trusted": Romesh Ranganathan speaks out on doing Celeb Traitors with pal Rob Beckett

Romesh Ranganathan has opened up about filming The Celebrity Traitors with his friend and fellow comedian Rob Beckett.

Set to premiere on Thursday 1 October at 8pm on BBC One, the anticipated series sees Claudia Winkleman return to host as 21 celebrities enter the Scottish castle in the hope of winning £100,000 for charity.

Among those celebs taking part are best friends Rob and Romesh, with the latter saying he doesn't "trust" Rob in the game.

Asked how it felt to be filming the show with Rob, Romesh said: "Well, it's weird, isn't it? Because Rob is one of my best friends, and we've worked together for a decade now, but I still won't be able to trust it."

He continued: "I mean, he's just as easily going to be on my side as he is going to twist the knife in my back given the opportunity. I mean, it's completely unpredictable."

Speaking about their TV show Rob and Romesh Vs, Romesh said they normally have each other's backs and help each other out.

He added: "Whereas this time, he can't be trusted. It can't be the end of the relationship because it's financially beneficial. But I think if it wasn't financially beneficial, then it could be the end of the friendship."

Questioned if they would stab each other in the back during the game, Romesh said: "In a heartbeat, yeah. Yeah, I think I would. It's all fair in Traitors, isn't it?"

He quipped: "It's just a game that has real-world implications for working relationships."

Meanwhile, Claudia recently opened up about a moment with Rob that left her laughing so much she had to "hide in a bush".

She said: "They all made me laugh. They are all utterly brilliant and the funniest people on earth. Rob Beckett said something that made me hide in a bush until I composed myself."

As well as Romesh and Rob, this year's celeb line-up includes Amol Rajan, Professor Hannah Fry, Michael Sheen, James Blunt, Jerry Hall, and Joanne McNally.

Also taking part are Julie Hesmondhalgh, King Kenny, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Myha'la, Ross Kemp, Sebastian Croft, Sharon Rooney, Richard E Grant, Maya Jama, Bella Ramsey, Joe Lycett, Miranda Hart and James Acaster.

The Celebrity Traitors debuts Thursday 1 October at 8pm BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked will follow on Thursday 1 October at 9.15pm on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.
