‘Obsession’ And ‘Backrooms’ Win Big at Fangoria Chainsaw Awards

Translate

“Obsession” led this year’s Fangoria Chainsaw Awards with the most amount of wins, taking home five awards including Best Director for Curry Barker and Best Lead Performance for Inde Navarrette.

Celebrating achievements in horror film, television and gaming, the fan-voted awards premiered Sunday on Shudder and were hosted by Devon Sawa (“Final Destination,” “Chucky”). Among the night’s most stand-out moments were “Insidious” star Lin Shaye presenting the final award of the evening for “Obsession” and “Cujo” star Dee Wallace presenting the Goodest Boy award to the leading canine in “Good Boy,” Nova Scotia retriever Indy.

“Like the genre it honors, the true fun of the Chainsaw Awards is that we have the audience’s permission to push the envelope. Horror fans not only want to celebrate the films and individuals who kept them watching, but they want to do it in a manner befitting the thing they love,” said Michael Varrati, who wrote and directed the ceremony. “That’s why we can present a special award to a dog who became a fan favorite or send our scream king host into a corn maze to contend with things lurking behind the rows.”

“Backrooms” earned the second highest amount of Chainsaw Awards, receiving three wins for Best First Feature, Best Cinematography and Best Score. “Widow’s Bay” took home Best Series, while “Resident Evil: Requiem” won Best Video Game.

Special honorees of the night include Joe Bird, (“Talk to Me,” “Leviticus”) who received the Editor’s Eyeball Award to recognize his rising career in horror. A second Editor’s Eyeball Award was presented to co-presenter James A. Janisse, honoring him and Chelsea Rebecca or creating the horror YouTube channel, “Dead Meat.”

The ceremony was executive produced by Armen Aghaeian, Tara Ansley and Abhi Goel, with Amanda Grace Collins serving as lead producer and Phil Nobile Jr. and Varrati as producers.
