Police yet to receive information on Najib's transfer from Kajang Prison to his residence

KUALA LUMPUR: The area around former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's residence in Jalan Langgak Duta remained quiet this morning amid attention on the possibility of him being brought home to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

Checks showed a police van stationed in the area, along with several security cones along the route leading to the residence.

However, there were no visible signs of special preparations for the former prime minister's return.

Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam, when contacted, said police operations in the area were proceeding as usual.

He said the police had so far received no information about the possibility of Najib being released from prison and brought to his residence in Langgak Duta.

He added that the police had also not received any notification from the Prisons Department regarding the matter.

It was previously reported that police had stationed a mobile police station near Najib's residence as a security measure in preparation for a possible transfer from prison.

The deployment was aimed at ensuring the safety of media personnel, residents and supporters, as well as preventing traffic congestion in the area.

Najib's lawyer on Thursday confirmed that he would serve the remainder of his prison sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case with his family at his Langgak Duta residence.

His lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, was reported to have said that his client had received a house arrest order from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, together with an attachment detailing the conditions and mechanism for its implementation.

However, details of the order's implementation could not be disclosed on the instructions of the Prisons Department.

Shafee had said that the High Court's decision to reject the application to stay the prison sentence in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case would not prevent Najib from serving the remainder of his sentence in the SRC International case under house arrest.

On Sept 18, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted a conditional pardon allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence in the SRC International case under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

However, the implementation of the house arrest order is subject to payment of the RM50 million fine.
