Both the Indian men’s and women’s kabaddi teams enter the Asian Games 2026 as the defending champions.
In 2023 in Hangzhou, China, the men’s team had beaten Iran 33-29, while the women’s side had edged Chinese Taipei 26-25 to bag the gold.
They are also the most successful teams in the history of the Asiad. India boasts of eight gold medals in the men’s event and three gold medals in the women’s event.
There’s only been one edition (2018) where the teams have fallen short in clinching the yellow metal. In Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia, the men bagged bronze after losing to Iran in the semifinals, while the women finished as silver medallists after losing to the Iranians in the final.
