DUNGUN, Oct 18 — A 48-year-old female climber collapsed and lost consciousness while hiking at Air Terjun Langsir, Chemerong, here yesterday.

Operations Commander Senior Fire Officer Ishak Abd Aziz said the victim, Lim Kah Wah from Bayan Lepas, Penang, was participating in the hiking activity with 31 other participants and five mountain guides.

He said the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call regarding the incident at 11.22am before contacting the mountain guide accompanying the victim to obtain further information regarding her location and condition.

He noted that based on initial information, the victim was located about nine kilometers from the foot of the mountain, with the trek to the location estimated to take up to 15 hours on foot.

“At 1pm, assistance from the JBPM Air Unit was requested to evacuate the victim, while an application to activate the state’s Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team of Malaysia (STORM) was made at 1.30pm,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ishak said an AW139 helicopter carrying five personnel departed for the location at 2.26pm to carry out the victim evacuation mission.

“The victim, along with her husband, was successfully evacuated from the location at 5.50pm and brought to Sekolah Menengah Sains Dungun near here,” he said.

He added that the victim and her husband arrived at the school at 6:00pm before being transferred to the Dungun Hospital to allow the woman to receive medical treatment. — Bernama
