Mann was taken to hospital, where he was treated and was being released on Sunday, according to AP.

The award-winning director, producer and screenwriter has worked on major films since the 1980s including Manhunter, Last Of The Mohicans, and Collateral.

Mann also served as an executive producer on 1980s crime drama Miami Vice, which ran from 1984 to 1990, before directing its 2006 film adaptation.

He has also been involved in films such as crime thriller Thief and political drama The Insider, which earned him three Oscar nods, and biographical drama Ali starring Will Smith.

His most recent film Ferrari, starring Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz, was released in 2023, and followed automotive mogul Enzo Ferrari as he fought to rescue his company from insolvency amid the 1957 financial crisis.

Mann is best known as the director and screenwriter of smash-hit 1995 film Heat.

It starred Al Pacino as detective Vincent Hanna, who attempts to apprehend career thief Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) as he prepares his final heist before retirement.

The crime film marked the first time Pacino and De Niro shared the screen, and also featured acclaimed actor Val Kilmer as Chris Shiherlis, a skilled bank robber who works closely with McCauley.

It inspired Mann to release his 2022 sequel and prequel novel Heat 2, which follows the three main characters in the years surrounding the events of the first film.

The big screen adaptation, which will be directed and produced by Mann, is in development, with filming reportedly postponed until January 2027.

Adolescence actor Stephen Graham previously confirmed his involvement in the upcoming film, saying he will portray a younger version of De Niro’s character.
