PlayStation fans disappointed with “lacklustre” State Of Play showcase

Translate

Sony hosted a State Of Play showcase earlier today (September 3) but PlayStation fans aren’t impressed with the “disappointing” game reveals.

In the days leading up to Sony’s September State Of Play, social media was full of rumours that Naughty Dog were going to share some major news about their newest game Intergalatic: The Heretic Prophet and tease The Last Of Us: Part Three.

However neither of those games were given any airtime during the 45-minute State Of Play. Instead, the presentation started off with a trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil movie. From there, Sony shared another trailer for its upcoming Wolverine game ahead of its release on September 15 while fans got a better look at the imminent Ghost Of Yotei hardcore survival mode. A new trailer for the Ascendance expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds was also released.

The big news is that the beloved survival horror game Until Dawn is getting a sequel. Until Dawn 2: Choice And Consequences is out January 28, 2027. “Will you guide all the team of fake ghost hunting Youtubers Dead True (plus their plucky chicken companion!) safely off Akishima Island? Or will the horrors claim a few… or even all… as you face the chilling horrors of this beautiful yet deadly paradise,” asks an official description of the game.

It’s also been confirmed that the third and final chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, Revelation, will launch April 8, 2027. And instead of being a PlayStation exclusive, it will release simultaneously on Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.

The State Of Play also confirmed updates for Gran Turismo 7, Saros and Crimson Desert

Away from games, the showcase revealed some exclusive Grand Theft Auto 6-inspired DualSense controllers and Lego is making an official PlayStation set based on the original console.

However some fans are calling it the worst State Of Play ever. “I’ve been waiting since the first PS5 State Of Play to feel anything. Like literally anything,” wrote one Reddit user. “This State Of Play just wasn’t worth it. They shouldn’t have made it in the first place,” said another.

“Well, Until Dawn 2 looks nice. The rest has been kind of a miss for me. I don’t want to see more of Wolverine or FF7 Revelation at this point… I want to play those games without knowing everything beforehand,” explained a third. “They didn’t even show Intergalactic? holy fuck, this was the worst State Of Play I’ve watched by far,” added another Reddit use.

You can watch the whole State Of Play for yourself here.

In other news, Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie is out later this month (September 18) but some fans have been able to watch the first 30 minutes early – and have praised the “absolutely wild” adaptation.
